Valeria thank you so much for putting the spotlight on Kathy here. To this day, the majority of the posts she wrote over 4 years ago are more useful to me than anything I can read today.

One of the things I have learned over the past few years of blogging is that most people are smarter than they give themselves credit for. They often make the mistake of valuing their opinion based on their number of followers or readers, if it's low, they assume that no one wants to hear what they have to say. As bloggers, I think one of the things we should strive to do is find a way to encourage and empower people to share their thoughts with us. This is a big reason why I still consult Kathy's writings because she has a wonderful way of helping bloggers figure out how to get more engagement on their blogs, and encourage interaction from their readers. From my experience, a blog's readership as a whole will always be smarter than the blogger, and it's to the blogger's benefit to find a way to draw those smart people out to contribute.

And Kathy thanks for letting Valeria interview you here. We need to hear more from you, as you have a wealth of valuable knowledge and there's been a huge void in this space since 2007 that none of us can fill. Thanks for giving me a quick 'fix' ;)

Wow. "How will this help (others) kick ass?"

Sooth.

True success comes in helping others succeed. I often find myself wondering, "How much time should I spend trying to invent the future - vs. helping others invent it?"

I am so glad I was able to publish this conversation. Like you, I oftenrefer back to Kathy's work in my thinking.

Thank you for the comment, and for the tweets, Mack.

if you ever have the chance to attend a conference when she is speaking, I highly recommend it ;)

Thank you for eliciting and channeling the wisdom of Kathy Sierra. In doing so, I believe you are modeling the kind of behavior she is prescribing - helping readers (or at least this reader) kick ass - and exemplifying what I would consider to be the qualities of a true Conversation Agent. I was not at SXSW, and don't know how your SXSW presentation went, but imagine that if you successfully applied the insights contained in this post (and Part 2), then you helped your audience kick ass.
