I've been on the brand side and have helped many bands with navigating that balance between first aid and treating social as a special channel. The operational side of business needs to be part of it, or there will be even greater dissonance and loss of value to the brand.

I love this post not only because you highlight how influential Twitter can be for your business but because you also highlight the fact that it can be a battle at first.
