Making Sense:
- The End Of Apps As We Know Them. Paul Adams: [via] One final step further. What if the cards came from other things? Like vending machines that you walk up to and pay through the card? Hotels you walk into and order your breakfast or pay for the wifi? The ramifications for websites might also be huge. If a publishing company, for example the New York Times, can push content to cards, and those cards can be seen in many different third party places (with revenue sharing agreements) why bother having a website at all? It’s just a huge overhead.
- Banks' Apple Pay Opportunity. Ron Shevlin: This “erosion” isn’t going to happen as a result of Apple Pay for one other very important reason: Because the “primacy” of bank relationships isn’t built on payments. It’s built on “storage.” The reason banks have a primacy position in consumers’ financial relationship is because they park their money in banks.
Making Do:
- 20 years of blogging. Dave Winer: Blogging is about people - In 20 years of blogging and developing software for blogging, you meet a lot of people, and some of them do share love with you. To me that was always the wonder of blogging.
- How Side Projects Saved our Startup. Quartz: Just because a project might be a website or app where code needs to be written, we tend to label it side project if it’s not the core product. This isn’t always true. A website or app might just be an advanced form of marketing. We shouldn’t be too quick to classify something as an unrelated side project without understanding its purpose.
Making It:
- Execution. The Big Picture: Success is hard work and very few want to do the heavy lifting. Because it’s boring, because it’s challenging, because no one is paying attention, because it might not pay off in the long run anyway.
